Who we are
“UK Disabilities & Allies’ is a UK focussed ERG. Our vision is to support UK employees with disabilities by creating a safe space, raising awareness about the barriers experienced by those with disabilities and increasing allyship across AstraZeneca, to foster a more inclusive workplace for all.”
Check out this survey I found on facebook for the UK. It would be really good if people took part!

Cheshire East Disability & Special Needs Career Fair 26 February
Hi Allies
I’ve been approached by one of our Apprenticeship Partners in the North West to see if we might be able to support a student career fair in Congleton on 26th February, which is specifically targeted to young people (aged 16-18) with disabilities and special needs who are looking to enter the workplace.
If there is anyone in the group who is based in Macclesfield who might be available to support this event as a volunteer, alongside a couple of our NW-based Apprentices to talk about life at AZ and the type of support available in the workplace, it would be great to have representation from those with lived-experience. I would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who might be willing to talk about their own pathways into work after post-16/post-18 education at a speaker slot.
Please contact me if you think you may be able to help 🙂
Thank you

It is long overdue, but attitudes need to change!
I’ve been talked about behind my back, and called ignorant because I genuinely haven’t heard people, and nearly knocked over by cyclists coming up behind me ringing their bells, which I can’t hear, but I can not imagine what it must feel like to be bullied, abused and receive threats of violence. Reading this article made me very sad, but also angry.
This is one of the reasons I try to raise awareness around disabilities, to change the narrative and start conversations
A new movie, ‘Daruma’, has been released, and it has two main characters who happen to have a disability, but that is not the point of the story. In the interview, it is mentioned that if those characters had been swapped with traditional actors with no disabilities, the story would not change at all. I think it is a sign of the times we are leaving where society is finally maturing to the point of understanding, and as a result, where we start saying reflection in the mainstream media.
I am looking forward to watching it.
Looking for an accessibility conference? Axe-Con registration is open!
Deque Systems free virtual accessibility conference, Axe-Con 2025, has just released their agenda and it looks fantastic! There are more than 60 speakers scheduled over three days, and most sessions are recorded so if you can’t make a session, you can watch it later. All sessions will have live captions and ASL interpretation.
This is a great way to learn more about accessibility!
